Video Interview: Tessa Thompson on 'Creed'
Tessa Thompson discusses her progressive role in Ryan Coogler's latest mesmerising 'Rocky' instalment.
Tessa Thompson stars alongside Michael B. Jordan in Ryan Coogler’s Creed – the next chapter in the eminent Rocky franchise. The film follows the journey of Adonis Creed (Jordan), a troubled boxer and illegitimate son of Apollo Creed, the late, great, former Heavyweight Boxing Champion of the World. Having been raised by his adoptive mother Mary Anne (Phylicia Rashad), Adonis is determined to make a name for himself by continuing the birthright.
Adonis tracks down his father’s close friend, and fellow boxing champion, Rocky Balboa (Stallone) in a bid for him to become a new trainer. Upon his new training and boxing regime, the young fighter comes across his neighbour Bianca, a level-headed, self-assured, aspiring musician.
Thompson gained critical praise for her performance in the American black-comedy Dear White People (2014) as well as for her portrayal of civil rights activist Diane Nash in the Oscar-winning biopic drama, Selma (2014).
Creed has been recognised as one of the year’s most celebrated films with Stallone earning a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor, as well as Academy Award nomination.
